Nine killed as tractor falls into canal in Nalgonda

Rescue operations under way as a tractor overturned and fell into the Alimineti Madhava Reddy Project canal near Waddipatla village in Nalgonda on Friday.

At least nine people, all women, were killed, when a tractor overturned and fell into the AMRP (Alimineti Madhava Reddy Project) canal near Waddipatla village in the mandal, about 50 kms from the district headquarters.

Sources said the tractor trolley was carrying nearly 30 agricultural workers at the time of the accident.

They all reportedly belonged to Padamati thanda in the same mandal, and were going to Pulicherla village in the neighboring Peddavoora mandal for daily work.

The police and the locals have so far fished out nine bodies, and rescue efforts are on.

The victims till now were identified as Ramavath Sona, 70, Ramavath Jeja, 65, Jarukula Dwali, 30, Ramavath Keli, 50, Ramavath Kamsali, 50, Banavath Beri, 55, Ramavath Bharathi, 35, and Ramavath Sunitha, 30.
