NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Management bill, passed by Parliament in December 2017 grants B-schools the power to award degrees to their graduates and sets them free from government interference. Despite the autonomy and the ministry allowing them to grant degrees to their students, IIMs have not yet arrived at a consensus.
The directors of all the 20 business schools met in Delhi on February 28.
The IIMs are being asked to form their own rules. IIM Bangalore, Lucknow and Ranchi had their convocation last month. While IIM Lucknow and IIM Ranchi gave postgraduate diplomas in management to their students, IIM Bangalore was the first to award an MBA degree. IIM Udaipur and IIM Indore are also exploring the idea of granting degrees. tnn
