Farmer ends life due to crop damage in Khammam district of Telangana

A farmer committed suicide by consuming pesticide at his field due to crop damage because of the recent rains in Khammam district.

KHAMMAM: A farmer committed suicide by consuming pesticide at his field due to crop damage because of the recent rains in Khammam district. The farmer has been identified as Banda Sammi Reddy, resident of Toggudem village in Pinapaka mandal.

Banda Sammi Reddy had cultivated paddy in his 4.5 acres of land and invested `1 lakh by taking loan from private money lenders. He had taken `2 lakh debt last year due to lack of MSP for crops.

Humiliated over crop damage, he consumed pesticide at his fields and died while being shifted to area hospital in Bhadrachalam. Pinapaka police have registered a case. Meanwhile Pinapaka MLA Payam Venkateswarlu assured kin that he would support them.
