Bihar: Paliganj teacher couple shot at in Arwal
PATNA: Two bike borne unidentified criminal shot at a couple on Paliganj-Parha road under Kinjar police station area in Arwal district on Monday.
Police said the couple, identified as Sunil Kumar (40) and Kiran Devi (36), were teachers in two different government middle schools in Arwal and were resident of Lodipur village under Paliganj police station area in Patna district.
Both were returning home on bike from their schools in Arwal when they were attacked by assailants in bordering area of both the districts.
Arwal SDPO Shailendra Kumar said that while Sunil was posted at Shivnagar middle school under Karpi police station area, his wife was posted at middle school in Parha village under Kinjar police station area.
“The assailants had come with motive to kill the couple as they did not tried to loot or snatch anything from the couple. Investigations were on and reason were still unknown,” the SDPO said.
He said the assailants choose a secluded place which was almost near the border of the two districts to open fire on the couple.
“Sunil received two gunshot injuries below chest while Kiran was shot at in one of her arms,” he said adding that both were shifted to a private hospital in the state capital after initial treatment at Paliganj.
He said that the assailants, on a bike, were trailing the couple after which they intercepted them and opened fire. The SDPO also said that Sunil was also into cement trading in Paliganj.
He said that police were yet to record the statement of the victims as their condition was serious.
Meanwhile, Paliganj DSP Manoj Kumar Pandey said that nothing concrete had surfaced to indicate that the couple had enmity with anyone in the village. “Sunil owns a cement store in the village,” he added.
