YSR Congress Party president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday hailed the sacrifices of the five party MPs, who have been on an indefinite fast.

After the Praja Sankalpa Yatra at Mangalagiri, Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy, in a video conference, spoke to Y. Avinash Reddy and P. Mithun Reddy, who have been fasting at AP Bhavan since April 6, the day when the five Lok Sabha MPs tendered their resignations.

“The whole State is looking at you as you have made people proud by your selfless act. What you have done, by resigning from the membership of the Lok Sabha and launching an indefinite fast, will be remembered forever by the people of the State.

“People here have expressed solidarity by staging protests on national highways and students have sat on protests on campuses. Your dedication is motivating me to fight for Special Category Status even more,” said Mr. Jagan.

The fasting MPs, on the other hand, urged Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy to take care of his health as the day temperatures were soaring in the State.

Promises to weavers

Earlier, Mr. Reddy interacted with weavers at Mangalagiri and promised that all weavers would be paid ₹2,000 monthly pension and the age for receiving pensions would be reduced to 45 years. Their children would be provided with financial assistance to complete their education, he said.

Though 65 persons committed suicide at Dharmavaram in Anantpur district, the State government feigned ignorance as it feared a backlash from the community. The CM had gone back on his promise of setting up a corporation for weavers and, as against the promise of spending ₹1,000 crore, had spent only ₹148 crore for the welfare of weavers, Mr. Jagan alleged. Party MLA Alla Ramakrishna Reddy and Guntur Lok Sabha coordinator Lavu Krishnadevarayulu were present.
