UP govt patronising illegal mining in Kushinagar: Congress

LUCKNOW: The Congress party on Wednesday accused the Yogi government of promoting illegal mining in UP. “The Yogi government has put the lives of lakhs of people in danger by giving patronage to illegal mining in Kushinagar,” alleged UP Congress chief Raj Babbar.
The party swung into action after its legislative party leader Ajay Kumar Lallu was arrested for leading a protest against illegal mining in Kushinagar on Saturday.
Claiming that Lallu’s arrest was illegal, Babbar threatened a statewide agitation if Lallu was not released within three days. “The Kushinagar administration went ahead with awarding mining contracts despite objections from UP irrigation department. The administration’s patronage to illegal mining will adversely affect people,” he said.
