Two men have been charged in connection with a serious assault which left a student fighting for his life.

David Lloyd, 25, and Billy Michael Valentine, 19, have been charged with grievous bodily harm in connection with an attack on second year criminology student Ifan Richard Owens, 19, on Aberystwyth High Street in January.

Mr Owens was in a coma for a month following the assault, before making “amazing” and “unexpected” progress.

In Feburuary, his father Gareth Owens, who is originally from Llanfairpwll but now lives in Cardiff, said: “Amazing, unexpected good news. Ifan’s been taken off the ventilator and has had the breathing tube removed. He’s poking his tongue out ‘on command’.

“He nods, raises his eyebrows and his eyes. He’s also winked, which shows a bit of his humour and character and is heartening.”
