BHOPAL: To assess the party’s position among peasants after farmer aggression in parts of the state, BJP in Madhya Pradesh will take feedback from its 15-day long ‘Kisan Samman Yatra’, launched from Morena on April 1.
The yatra aims at creating awareness and evaluation of farmer welfare schemes. As part of the yatra, a public meeting was addressed by Union minister Narendra Singh Tomar in Morena on Saturday.
Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will address the yatra in Balaghat on April 15 and Shujalpur on April 16.
In some districts, the yatra will continue till April 20 and party workers are planning a series of meetings and felicitation of local farmers, said a senior BJP functionary.
“The yatra, which began from Morena on April 1 and other districts from April 5, came to an end at the same place where farmer meetings and felicitations were held. The concluding ceremony will be held in each district with state party president Nandkumar Singh Chauhan participating in Khandwa and chief minister Chouhan in Balaghat and Shujalpur on April 15 and 16,” said state BJP Kisan Morcha president Ranvir Singh Rawat, who participated in the yatra in Karera of Shivpuri district, on Saturday.
Party sources said feedback on MLAs’ participation in rural areas, their communication with farmers, information and publicity of farm related welfare schemes and benefits were collected during the 15-day long programme. Besides, implementation and publicity of schemes will also be evaluated.
“Party leaders contacted farmers in each village during the 15-day long yatra and collected details about their crops, future plans, ideas for innovating schemes, modern farming and benefits given under welfare schemes. The feedback would help the state government and the party in assessing the reach and impact of the welfare programmes for the farmers,” said a BJP state functionary.
He said popularity and performance of MLAs among farmers would be evaluated on the basis of the assessment. The feedback would help the party decide most appropriate candidates for 156 assembly seats of the total 230 in the state under the influence of farmers and rural population, he said.
