Physically handicapped minor allegedly raped by cousin in Siwan

PATNA: An eight-year-old physically handicapped minor girl was allegedly raped by her 14-year-old cousin at village Chhitauli Khurd under Goriatoli police station area in Siwan district on Saturday.
However, the matter came to light on Sunday only after the parents of the victim contacted police soon after which an FIR was lodged with the Women’s police station in Siwan.The accused was arrested late in the evening on Sunday.
The district magistrate Mahendra Kumar had to intervene in the matter as the victim was not given medical treatment even after being brought to sadar hospital in the district by her family members on Sunday.
Kumar, while talking to TOI over phone, said that after the matter was brought before him, the district civil surgeon (CS) was ordered to attend the girl and take all necessary steps for her treatment.
“She was brought to the hospital at around 9am but was not attended by the medical staff even till the noon. The CS has been ordered to submit a report on the matter and take action against the negligent staffs,” the DM said adding that the matter till then had come in cognizance of police.
Meanwhile, women’s police station SHO Manju Singh said that the victim is handicapped from her legs.
“The victim was taken to a nearby hut by the cousin after gaining her trust who later raped her. The victim’s mother Rehana Khatoon had submitted a written complaint with the women’s police station on basis of an FIR was lodged,” she said.
SHO Singh further said that the parents of the victim were daily wagers and hardly meet their daily needs.
She said that in the preliminary police investigation, evidences have surfaced that the victim was raped.
“Victim’s medical test was conducted on Sunday while on Monday, her statement was recorded before a magistrate in Siwan,” the SHO added.
