Labour MP Ian Austin was applauded in the House of Commons after he demanded Jeremy Corbyn 'boot out' former London Mayor Ken Livingstone.

The former Minister was speaking during a general Commons debate on anti-Semitism, which Labour leader attended.

Mr Austin said: "Let's be really clear about it: Ken Livingstone comparing, claiming, that Hitler was a Zionist - this is anti-Semitism pure and simple, happened more than two years ago, there has been ample time to deal with it.

"It's a disgrace that it hasn't been dealt with: kick him out immediately."

Tory former minister Robert Halfon could be seen clapping from his seat and other MPs cheered as Mr Austin added: "He (shadow communities secretary Andrew Gwynne) should stand at that despatch box and he should tell the leader of the Labour Party that Livingstone must be booted out. Boot him out."

Speaking for the Labour front bench, Mr Gwynne said Mr Austin made his views "very clearly" and said he did not share Mr Livingstone's views.

"I think that they are abhorrent and the Labour Party will go through the processes that are well applied to each and every member of the Labour Party.

"That needs to be done far more quickly but it needs to be done as it would to every member of the Labour Party."

Mr Gwynne told the Commons that "much more work needs to be done" on anti-Semitism, and said: "No political party has the monopoly on vice or virtue but we will put our house in order.

"Let me be clear today: if anyone is denying the reality of anti-Semitism on the left they are not doing so with the endorsement of the Labour Party or the leader of the Labour Party."
