DMK working president MK Stalin seeks audience with PM Modi to discuss Cauvery dispute

He wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking an audience with him to apprise him of the situation emerging out of the Cauvery river water-sharing dispute.

CHENNAI: DMK working president MK Stalin on Tuesday wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking an audience with him to apprise him of the situation emerging out of the Cauvery river water-sharing dispute. “Through this letter, we seek an appointment to meet and apprise you of the sentiments prevailing in Tamil Nadu and urge you to intervene in the issue immediately,” he said in the letter.

Recalling the resolutions passed at an all-party meeting convened by the Tamil Nadu government on Feb. 22 and in the Assembly later, he demanded that the Prime Minister direct the Ministry of Water Resources to withdraw the clarification petition pending before the Supreme Court immediately as it was being perceived as unfair, unjust and unreasonable in the context of the Feb. 16 judgment and pushed the entire state into a crisis.

Recalling the February 16 verdict of the SC, Stalin said the court had directed the Centre to frame a scheme within six weeks so that the final award delivered by Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal in February, 2007 could be effectively put into operation and the dispute was resolved once for all.
