VIJAYAWADA: Nuzvid excise and prohibition officials have arrested a woman for reportedly supplying cannabis to prison inmates and students

The woman, identified as Kurakula Durga (56), was arrested on Tuesday from her residence at Prakash Nagar under Nunna police station.

According to Circle Inspector Srinivas, the issue came to light when two college students were found consuming ganja in the outskirts of Nuzvid town. Upon inquiring, they told police the whereabouts of Durga, who supplied them with the drug.

When the excise police tried to take her into custody for interrogation, Durga resorted to violence and reportedly tried to escape. "The accused is a notorious ganja peddler of the town and has even served jail term in the past. It is also suspected that she has contacts with inmates of jails and supplied the drug them. She gained permission to meet prisoners as she claims to be their relatives and sells them ganja," Srinivas said.

The CI said a bind-over case was also registered in Nunna police station against Durga for abusing and attacking excise officials.
