LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The Louisville Bats have announced plans to change their name in celebration of bourbon - but just for one night.

The team unveiled the temporary Louisville Mashers logo on Thursday.

The design, displaying an animated bourbon barrel holding a bag of corn, will be featured during Cheers to Bourbon Night on May 26 at Slugger Field. The bag of corn represents the 51 percent corn mash required to classify whiskey as bourbon, according to the Louisville Mashers website.

The event will be hosted by the Evan Williams Bourbon Experience.

In addition to altering their name and logo, the Bats will also change their jerseys to commemorate the occasion and honor Kentucky's rich bourbon history.

"We're going to have a lot of fun with it," Greg Galiette, Senior Vice President for the Louisville Bats, said. "I think the people in the community are going to have a great time with it, also. I expect to see a lot of this Masher gear start showing up out in the community."

Louisville Mashers gear and tickets to Cheers to Bourbon Night can be found here.

The first 1,000 adults, aged 21 or over, will receive a free special edition Mashers bourbon glass upon entry. Patrons aged 21 or over can also participate in an Evan Williams Bourbon tasting on the main concourse.
