MANGALURU: To ensure free and fair polls, especially in sensitive poll booths in Dakshina Kannada district, the district administration will webcast all the proceedings.
ML Vaishali, additional deputy commissioner, told TOI that webcams will be used in around 599 polling booths out of 1,858 polling booths in the district. Among the 204 polling booths in Mangaluru and 207 in Sullia, 119 and 107 polling booths are sensitive.
“This was categorised based on the past untoward incidents that took place during the pollings. In total, 35 per cent of the polling booths have the webcasting facility,” Vaishali pointed out.
Meanwhile, in Sullia and Belthangady taluks, tens of polling stations have been considered sensitive due to Naxal activity in the areas. According to sources, webcast of the proceedings will help authorities to prevent any possible untoward incident as well as prevent any proxy voting.
Additional security forces will be deployed in sensitive areas having polling booths, during and before the elections.
