Olivier Giroud joined Chelsea from Arsenal in January

That’s according to Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas.

The Frenchman left Arsenal and moved across London in a deal worth £18m to provide competition for misfiring striker Alvaro Morata.

The 31-year-old was struggling for game time at the Emirates and the arrival of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund pushed him further down the pecking order.

Giroud has not started as often as he would’ve liked at his new club, with Antonio Conte rotating him with Morata and often preferring Eden Hazard in a false 9 role.

But despite his limited minutes, Nicholas believes Chelsea fans will be happy with Giroud’s performances so far, particularly after scoring twice in last week’s win at Southampton.

“I would choose Giroud also, he holds the ball in better,” he said when asked who should start tomorrow’s FA Cup semi-final against the Saints.

“I think when Hazard comes he gets more of a link up.

“Morata’s touch is off, everything is off, he doesn’t feel loved at the moment. I think his frustration when he was subbed tells you he’s not happy, he’s not happy at all.

“Giroud’s just accepted ‘look, I didn’t want to leave Arsenal but I’ve come here, you’ve bought me, the manager probably didn’t want to bring me in because he’s leaving so he’s not that fussed about me’.

“But if I’m picking one to start, it would be Giroud.

“He’s not got the pace and running power Morata’s got but I think just to give Chelsea that option that they can hit it in.

“And he’s scored a few goals now, he’s come out and done the business for them.

“I think the Chelsea fans have been pretty grateful for what he’s returned to them.”
