94% aspirants appear for APEAMCET on day one

The AP Engineering, Agriculture and Medical Common Entrance Test (EAMCET) - 2018 commenced across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana on Sunday.

HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao, along with in-charge Vice-Chancellor of JNTUK S. Ramakrishna Rao, formally released the paper code for the first session of the examination here.

Preliminary key

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Srinivasa Rao said arrangements were being made to declare the results on May 3. Copies of the evaluated answer sheets would be sent to the registered email address of the students, he said.

The test would be conducted for four days in both the States in the online mode, and the preliminary key would be released in the evening hours of April 25, the Minister said.

“Candidates can raise objections, if any, on the key on or before April 27. Over 2.76 lakh students from both the States have applied for the test, and arrangements have been made to accommodate about 35,000 students in each session. In all, six sessions will be held for the engineering stream in three days,” he said.

Commending the efforts of JNTUK in conducting EAMCET in a transparent manner in the last three years, Mr. Srinivasa Rao exuded confidence that this year’s examination too would be conducted in a peaceful and foolproof manner.

“The university is equipped with adequate infrastructure and technology to conduct the prestigious examination,” he said.

Priority sector

Mr. Srinivasa Rao said the government was according top priority to the education sector and allocating about 15% in the annual budget despite severe financial crisis.

“Education is the only way to eradicate poverty, and the government is focusing on converting the State into an educational and knowledge hub,” he said.

Amalapuram MP P. Ravindra Babu, MLAs V. Venateswara Rao and P. Ananthalakshmi, JNTUK Rector K. Purnanandam, and Registrar V.V. Subba Rao were present.

Meanwhile, 94.98% of the applicants turned up for the test in the morning and evening sessions on the first day.
