Four arrested for desecrating Hindu idols in UP's Ballia district

VARANASI: The police arrested four persons on Sunday for allegedly desecrating idols of Hindu deities and burning their pictures to hurt religious sentiments at Nagpur village in Rasara police station area in Ballia district of Uttar Pradesh. An FIR was lodged against three named and over 20 unknown persons under sections 295 of IPC and 66a of IT Act.
According to reports, the incident took place at Harijan basti of Nagpur, where some anti-social elements not only defaced the idols and burnt pictures but also made its video and made it viral on social media a few days ago.
They took out the idols and pictures from some houses of the Harijan basti and set them ablaze. On the complaint of Hindu Yuva Vahini members, the police lodged an FIR on Saturday evening.
The Rasara SO Jagdish Yadav told TOI over phone that four persons have been arrested in this connection The investigation is in progress to nab other persons involved in it. They were booked under section 295 (injuring or defiling place of worship with intent to insult the religion of any class) of IPC and section 66A of IT Act for sending offensive messages through communication service.
