ADILABAD: Sunstroke deaths are on the rise with temperatures soaring in old Adilabad and Karimnagar districts. At 42OC on Monday, temperatures touched the highest of the season.
As many as 15 persons died of sunstroke in the two districts in the last four days. Of these, six deaths were reported in the last two days in old Adilabad district alone.
Kanaka Bojju of Thallapet in Dandepalli of Mancherial district died of a sunstroke in Sirpur (U) mandal in Kumarambheem Asifabad district, while Bodasu Rajanna,45, a labourer succumbed to sunstroke in Subashnagar in Khanapur mandal in Nirmal district.
Sunstroke also claimed the lives of Golla Rajana, 65, of Dandepalli mandal headquarters, Atram Manik Rao, of Narsapur (J) in Utnoor mandal and Kothapelli Shnkaramma of Allipur in Dandepalli mandal.
In Mancherial, G. Laxmi of Mandamarri, Kodipunjula Raju of Tekulapalli village in Jankapur and Ramtenki Roja of Batvanpalli village, both in in Bellampalli mandal and Pamula Naresh of Devnagar in Utnoor madnal also succumbed to sunstroke.
Sunstroke deaths also took place in Jagtial and Karimnagar districts in the last four days. Dehydration is a common complaint; the hot temperatures coupled with heat waves have forced the people to confine themselves indoors.
Many cardholders of NREGS are not going for work due to the hot weather conditions and lack of essential facilities like drinking water, medical kits and shade for resting at the work site.
