Jammu & Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik today launched an indefinite hunger strike against the alleged police “atrocities”, his party said in a statement.

Malik, who is undergoing treatment at SKIMS, went on an indefinite hunger strike, the separatist group said. “Malik is undergoing treatment for a kidney ailment at the SKIMS hospital. However, despite that he started hunger strike against the atrocities launched by the police against innocent civilians,” JKLF vice-chairman Showkat Bakshi said in a statement.

The JKLF leaders are aghast at the alleged police crackdown in the Maisuma locality, which is the party’s support base.

“The police keeps fathers hostage for their sons and similarly political workers are being called to police stations where they are brutally tortured,” Bakshi said.

Bakshi alleged that three JKLF workers identified as Ishfaq Ahmad, Adil Ahmad and Faisal Aslam were “brutally tortured due to which they have suffered multiple fractures”.
