12 dead after van rams truck in Uttar Pradesh's Lakhimpur Kheri

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over the deaths in the accident and directed the officials concerned to initiate steps for ensuring all possible help and proper treatment to the injured.

9 dead after van rams truck in Uttar Pradesh's Lakhimpur Kheri

At least twelve people were killed and four others injured after a vehicle carrying 16 passengers rammed into a parked truck in Uttar Pradesh's Lakhimpur Kheri on Saturday.The driver of the Tata Magic van and the helper are among those killed. 

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over the deaths in the accident and directed the officials concerned to initiate steps for ensuring all possible help and proper treatment to the injured. 

The incident took place at 6 am on the National Highway 24 in Uchauliya under the jurisdiction of Pasgawan police station. 

Deputy SP Vijay Anand said two children, aged three months and one year, had a miraculous escape. The driver lost control of the van running in high speed leading to the accident, Anand said, adding that efforts were on to identify the other deceased. 

According to the police, driver Anup Awasthi, 25, and his helper Kishan, 23, died on the spot. 

Police said the injured have been rushed to a nearby hospital and efforts are on to identify the deceased, police said.
