MANZINI – There will be no more cheating in Taekwondo bouts.

This comes after the introduction of the electronic protector scoring system that was used for the first time yesterday during the Swaziland Taekwondo Association (STAss) National Championships held at Mavuso Sports Centre.

The equipment was donated to the country by the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) and it is worth about E100 000. STAss Secretary Mbongeni ‘Ndo’ Sibandze confirmed yesterday that this would bring great improvement in the game.

“We are happy that the system came at a time when there are lot of international tournaments coming. Our artists only used this equipment when playing internationally and there is no time to understand it at that level.
“Now they will be well versed on how it operates and they will be used to it,” he said.

Present during the championships was the Swaziland Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (SOCGA) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sydney Simelane and STAss President Zakhele Dlamini.

The electronic protector scoring system was introduced to Taekwondo in 2011 and the country had been all along trying to secure it. Sibandze said some of the problems to be dealt with by the new electronic protector scoring system include cheating and unfair competition.
