Modi in Karnataka: Check LIVE updates

3.46 pm: “Congress leaders’ and Congress President’s disrespect towards Shri Deve Gowda ji is not acceptable. If such is their mindset, how can they think good for people of Karnataka. Congress promotes intolerance and violence. There can be nothing worse than attack on Lokayukta. Congress’ government in Karnataka sheds the sand mafias. Those who loot cannot be be accepted to remain in power. They must go,” says PM.

3.33 pm: “Through the Mudra Yojana, we strengthened the ‘Yuva Shakti.’ They are now becoming entrepreneurs. One one hand, we are talking about enhancing Ease of Doing Business in the country, but Congress believes in ‘Ease of Doing Murder’. This is the culture they have developed… Violence cannot exist in a democracy. It is shameful how BJP Karyakartas were murdered in Karnataka. The Congress must answer on increasing crimes.,” says PM.

3.25 pm: PM says, “We opened bank accounts for the poor. Over 31 crores accounts have been opened under Jan Dhan Yojana. If the Congress had ensured their bank accounts, the poor would have contributed so much to the economy. But sadly, Congress never thought about their welfare.”

3.22 pm: “The way people of Udipi have had ushered their affection towards Jan Sangh and the BJP for so many years is heartening. Our Government will leave no stone unturned to fulfill aspirations of people of Karnataka and ensure all round development of the state,” says PM.

3.10 pm: PM Modi starts speech in Udupi.

12.44 pm: Modi says, “I was reading the papers and saw a 2+1 formula in Karnataka. This is a version of family politics in Karnataka. This is the innovation of the sleeping CM of Karnataka. He is fearing defeat so changing seats, fighting two seats. And, in his old seat he has sent his son…If CM has a 2+1 formula then Ministers have 1+1 formula. Relatives of Ministers are fighting polls. This is hurting the workers of the Congress. In front of the Congress ‘Naamdaars’ the Congress ‘Kaamdaars’ have no voice and this is so sad.

“The people of Karnataka know fully well how the 10% commission government has damaged the mission of serving society. On 12th May the people of Karnataka are not only choosing their MLA. They are deciding the future of the state and the trajectory the state will take. Let this vote be for honesty. Let this vote strengthen our commitment to end corruption.

“Do you know remember how much currency was found in the home of powerful Congress leaders? It is high time the money that belongs to the ‘Kaamdaars’ is returned to them from the ‘Naamdaars’ who usurped it. In Karnataka there is no law, there is no order. The respected Lokayukta is not safe, how can the common people be safe.”

“Where there is Congress, all roads of development are clogged. There is corruption, lack of harmony. Why are the people of Chamarajanagar not getting access to proper drinking water, jobs and why is the tourism potential here not being harnessed. What is the state Government doing.

“It is the NDA Government that is working to transform the lives of farmers. The farmers of Karnataka are benefitting from the various initiatives of the Central Government. ”

“BJP is focussing on the pride of Karnataka, the development of the state.”

12.41 pm: PM says, “In 4 years, the Congress party could only electrify 2 villages. This is their record.

“We believe in democracy and democratic ideals. If an opposition party has to say something, we will always think about it.”

12.38 pm: “The Congress is led by leaders who have no respect for India’s history. I was shocked that they even went to the level of disrespecting ‘Vande Mataram’.

“In 2005, during the time of Smt. Sonia Gandhi’s Government, Dr. Manmohan Singh had said he will provide electricity to every village by 2009. What happened to that? In any case, we saw how the Congress treated Dr. Manmohan Singh. They tore off ordinances and disrespected him.

“Dr. Manmohan Singh said we will electrify villages by 2009, Smt. Sonia Gandhi went a step ahead and said we will provide electricity to every house by 2009. But what happened? Congress has nothing but contempt for the poor and the labourers of India.”

12.27 pm: Modi rips apart Rahul Gandhi’s 15-minute challenge. “Congress President has challenged me- if he speaks for 15 minutes in Parliament Modi will not be able to sit. He is correct- there is no way ordinary people like me, who do not even dress well, can sit with such high and mighty people like the Congress President…We are Kaamdaars. What is our level that we can sit with people like the Congress President, who look down on us.”

“For 15 minutes, without taking a paper in your hand, can you please talk about the achievements of your government in Karnataka. You can speak in any language as you please- English, Hindi (or Italian).”

12.23 pm: “The Congress is led by leaders who have no respect for India’s history. I was shocked that they even went to the level of disrespecting ‘Vande Mataram’,” says PM.

12.22 pm: “We are now going to provide electricity to every household of India. I want to ask those who ruled India for a majority of the years since 1947- why did they not think about the 18,000 villages lacking access to electricity,” says PM.

12.13 pm: Targetting Rahul Gandhi, Modi says, “Perhaps due to over-excitement, the newly elected Congress President forgets decency. He did not even bother to congratulate the hardworking ‘Mazdoors’ due to whom India’s villages are getting electricity. The Congress President is ‘Namdaar’ so how does he know about the efforts of ‘Kaamdaars’.”

12.11 pm: “28th April 2018 will always be remembered in the history of India. Due to the efforts of several teams of people, India’s villages got electricity. This happened due to the hardworking ‘Mazdoors’,” says PM.

12.06: “Before I came here, I was told there is a ‘Hawa’ for the BJP. Now that I am here, I can tell you – it is much more than that. The Party is going to do very well in the polls… Yeddyurappa Ji is the hope of the people of Karnataka and he is going to be the future Chief Minister of the state” says PM.

12.01 pm: PM Modi starts speech in Kannada.

11.53 am: Ahead of Modi’s campaign, Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah says: What moral right does BJP have to talk about corruption? For last 4 years, the Central Government has not appointed a Lokpal. When he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat, Narendra Modi never appointed Lokayukta.”

“It is a democracy, we have no personal enmity with the PM. We have no objection to him coming here (Karnataka), but it is not going to have any impact,” it adds.

11.27 am: Ahead of Modi’s visit, Siddaramaiah tweeted: “Dear @narendramodi, Heard you are visiting Namma” Karnataka tomorrow. We welcome you to our state. While you are” here, we Kannadigas would like you to address the following” concerns. Please #AnswerMaadiModi.”

11.12 am: Here’s what Karnataka election opinion polls say about the poll outcome: ABP News Survey says the BJP is likely to get the most number of votes but 2% fewer votes as compared to the Congress. The JD(S) continues to a likely kingmaker. The survey says Siddaramaiah is the top choice for CM post, Yeddyurappa is second. READ MORE
