Delhi Metro Magenta Line's Kalkaji-Janakpuri West section may open by mid-May

NEW DELHI: The eagerly awaited Kalkaji Mandir to Janakpuri West section of Delhi Metro’s Magenta Line is now likely to open by mid-May.
The Commissioner for Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) will inspect the 25.6-km-long section from May 8 to 10, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said. Once the section gets the safety go-ahead from CMRS, DMRC would be able to open the section to public.

The first 12.6-km-long section of the Magenta Line between Botanical Garden in Noida and Kalkaji Mandir was inaugurated in December last year.The remaining section will put south Delhi areas such as Vasant Vihar, Munirka, IIT, Greater Kailash, Chirag Dilli etc. on the Delhi Metro map for the first time and south Delhi would also come closer to Noida and west Delhi.


The Kalkaji Mandir to Janakpuri West section of Magenta Line has 16 stations, including two interchange stations – Hauz Khas (with Yellow Line) and Janakpuri West (with Blue Line).
The Magenta Line would considerably reduce travel time between west Delhi and south Delhi, Gurugram, Faridbad and Noida. For instance, traveling between Hauz Khas and Janakpuri West at present requires an interchange from Rajiv Chowk that takes close to 55 minutes but with the opening of the Magenta Line, the journey would take less than half an hour.
For lakhs of residents of west Delhi, one of the most populous parts of the capital, the only lifeline connecting them to the rest of the city is Delhi Metro’s Blue Line (Dwarka Sector 21-Noida City Centre/Vaishali), which involves traveling up to Rajiv Chowk if they want to change trains to visit any other part of Delhi NCR. This will change with the opening of the Janakpuri West-Kalkaji Mandir section of the Magenta Line. The corridor would pass through and connect heavily populated areas like Palam, Dabri, Mahavir Enclave, Sagarpur, Dashrathpuri etc.
