LUCKNOW: Blood hungry stray dogs struck again in Sitapur on Friday morning and killed two young children. In a period of four days, violent dogs have killed five children in the neighbouring Sitapur district which is situated 70km away from the city.
Around 6.30am 10-year-old Virendra had gone to attend nature’s call. Virendra stayed in Budhanpur village and had gone along with two three more children from the same village.
A pack of dogs charged at the boys. While others managed to run, Virendra fell and was mauled by the canines.
Half an hour later Geeta who stayed in Mahsinghpur locality under the limits of Khairabad police station was targeted. The seven-year-old girl had gone to collect mangoes that had fallen on the ground in an orchard due to strong winds. The spot was located less than 2km away from Budhanpur and it is suspected that the same pack attacked Geeta later on.
The two children were attacked were attacked at a stretch which is situated 13km away from Tikari, Gurpulia and Kholia villages where three children had been mauled by stray dogs on the morning of May 1.
Sitapur district magistrate Sheetal Verma was in Lucknow on Friday and had left behind her CUG number in headquarters. “Madam have gone to attend a meeting in Lucknow and have left the phone behind,” said her personal assistant on Friday noon who answered the CUG number.
The menace created by stray dogs is becoming uncontrollable with 11 children falling prey to stray dogs in Khairabad area this year. While 11 deaths have been reported, villagers maintained that at least five more children have been killed by blood thirsty dogs but the parents were not willing to get postmortem examination done and hence their deaths do no find mention in police records.

SHO of Khairabad police station Sachin Kumar Singh said, “10 deaths have been reported to us while the eleventh one has taken place under Sitapur Kotwali. Khairabad is located next to the town area.”
Villagers are planning to sit on a protest at district collectorate in the next few days if the attacks continued. Virendra’s mother Nisha who was unable to control herself after the tragedy said, “The spot where my son had gone is located barely 150 metres away from the house. We all are aware about the menace created by stray dogs and hence children are allowed to leave the house only in groups. I should have sent some adult member from the village,” she said before media persons.
Dogs have attacked unarmed men too in Khairabad, particularly the ones who venture out alone late in the evening. According to villagers dogs started attacking human beings from the time a slaughter house shut down in Khairabad. “Till that time they got animal remains that was disposed in the fields near the slaughter house,” said inspector Sachin Singh.
