Odisha HSC Result 2018: Wheelchair-bound student excels in matric exam

KENDRAPADA: Baraja Kumar Das, 15, a wheelchair-bound boy of Sankhapada village under Mahakalapada block in Kendrapada district, is now the pride of the area. With sheer hard work, he has managed to get A-2 grade by scoring 518 marks out of 600 in the High School Certificate (HSC) examination, results of which were announced recently .
Baraja was born without legs. He has also only two fingers each in his hands.
He faced lot of problem during his childhood. But he has overcome his disability with sheer commitment. He writes with his two fingers, said a family member.
“Life is a challenge for me and I accepted it,” said Baraja. Attributing his success to his parents and teachers, Baraja said he would be a teacher .
“By dint of his hard work he got good marks in the examination. He is now an example for all the disabled children,” said Udayanath Majhi, district education officer of Kendrapada.
“My son fought all odds to achieve success. I do hard work as a daily-wage labourer. But I never neglected to provide help to my son for his study. His hard labour has borne fruits,” said Ranjan Das, father of Baraja.
“My son used to read six to seven hours daily in our ramshackle thatched house. We are now on cloud nine after he got A-2 grade,” said Sukanti Das, mother of Baraja.
As he grew up his determination overpowered his disability. “Now we are delighted after he scored 86.5% marks in the HSC examination,” said Nrusingh Charan Tripathy, headmaster of Bijayanagar high school where Baraja was studying.
Becoming a teacher is still a long way for Baraja , but he has already taught a lesson in life to many people around him with his undying spirit to move ahead in life, said Tripathy.
