Cowboys wide receiver Terrance Williams was arrested early Saturday morning in suburban Dallas on suspicion of public intoxication, not long after police found his Lamborghini abandoned after it hit a light pole.

Frisco (Texas) police were investigating the single-car accident that occurred around 4:45 a.m. local time when officers located Williams riding an electric bike near his home. Williams was arrested on the misdemeanor intoxication charge and was released from the jail after he posted a $369 bond, the police said in a news release.

A police spokesperson told USA TODAY Sports that investigators are looking into what role Williams had – if any – in the single-car accident involving the 2017 blue Lamborghini registered to the fifth-year pro. The charges could include fleeing the scene of an accident and striking a structure or highway landscaping.

Williams released a statement Saturday evening that disputed he had hit a light pole, according to a Dallas Morning News reporter. His attorney said the arrest was "wholly unrelated to the traffic accident."

"We are confident that once all the facts are brought to light in court Terrance will be vindicated," attorney Chip Lewis said in a statement.

Williams says in his statement released to the Morning News that a driver in front of him hit the brakes and he hopped a curb to avoid hitting the car. A neighbor of Williams picked him up when his car was not drivable.

The Cowboys player says he called a tow truck and picked up a scooter to ride back to the accident scene. He says a police officer, whom he had met previously in his neighborhood, arrested him while he was riding the scooter and no sobriety test was administered.

Police were not immediately investigating Williams for suspicion of driving under the influence.

A Cowboys spokesperson told USA TODAY Sports via email the team did not have a comment on Williams’ arrest “at this time."
