PENUKONDA (ANANTAPUR DISTRICT): In a shocking incident, a 37-year-old woman tried to kill six of her children while ending her own life at Gutturu village of
Penukonda mandal in
Anantapur district on Sunday.
The woman was identified as
Erukulla Vani (37), a daily wage labourer at a brick kiln. According to
Penukonda police, the incident happened at 2 pm in the afternoon when Vani along with her six of her daughters attempted suicide by mixing anti-lice powder in their food.
Soon, all of them collapsed and villagers who noticed them lying unconscious rushed them to a
local government hospital. Upon information, cops reached the spot an began an inquiry where they found that Vani’s husband Erukulla Srinu who is an alcoholic has allegedly thrashed her for over a number of family disputes including for the fact that she did not give birth to a son.
Sources said that Srinu has been irresponsible and sought Vani to give birth to a son and after six attempts failed, he has been harassing both his daughters and his wife over the issue. Cops said that Vani could not bear the harassment and decided to end their lives.
Meanwhile, cops took Srinu into custody and booked a case against him. The investigation is still on. Doctors said that all of them are under a stable condition and are out of danger.
