PATNA: Two unidentified assailants shot dead BSP leader Khutti Yadav (45) and injured his son Yashwant Kumar (25) near Itarhi railway crossing under the Town police station area in Buxar district around 9.30pm on Friday.
The deceased was a former mukhiya of Nadaon panchayat. Town police station SHO Awanish Kumar said the incident took place when the father-son duo were retuning to their home at Lalganj village after closing their medical shop located at the Buxar roundabout in an SUV.

According to the SHO, Yashwant was at the wheel and his father was sitting beside him. The SUV had stopped at the crossing for a train to pass through when an unidentified youth knocked on the windowpane. “The moment Yadav slid down the windowpane, the youth said ‘pranaam muhiya ji’ and fired two rounds,” the SHO said.
One bullet hit Yadav in head and the other in neck. The bullet which pierced through Yadav’s head also hit his son’s arm, the SHO said, adding they were rushed to the sadar hospital where Yadav was declared ‘brought dead’.
Two licensed rifles were kept in the SUV, but none got a chance to use them. “There was one more youth with the shooter. They fled on feet by crossing the railway track,” the police officer said and added Yashwant was later referred to Varanasi for treatment.
Buxar SP Rakesh Kumar attributed the crime to property dispute. “A police team has been sent to Varanasi to record Yashwant’s statement on the basis of which an FIR will be lodged,” he said.
The SP said the ex-mukhiya’s supporters created ruckus in front of the sadar hospital till midnight, but returned after they were pacified.
