Teenagers arrested after taxi stopped in police drugs swoop

Two teenagers have been arrested on suspected drugs offences after police swooped on a taxi in Bootle.

Police asked the taxi to stop in Knowsley Road after “two males of interest were sighted on board”.

Cash, cannabis and suspected drug paraphernalia were seized following the operation carried out by officers from Matrix - Merseyside police’s specialist gun and gang crime unit - at around 2.40pm on Sunday.

ACCIDENT: Travel monitors INRIX say there’s queueing traffic and one lane blocked due to an accident on the A561 Speke Road Eastbound between Vineyard Street and Bank’s Road, congestion on Speke Road to Church Road. Merseyside police have been approached for any details they may have.

COURT: Matthew Cassidy, 19, from Huyton, was murdered a year ago

TODAY: Two drugs dealers will face justice today for the brutal stabbing murder of a teenager from Merseyside.

Thugs Leslie Peter Baines and David John Woods face life sentences when they appear before a judge at Mold Crown Court for sentencing over the murder of 19-year-old Matthew Cassidy, who was stabbed to death in north Wales on May 29 last year.

Appeal to find teenager

A teenager is at the centre of an urgent police missing person appeal.

Lauryn Cass, 13, (pictured) was last seen on Friday, May 18 at Seaforth and Litherland train station.

Initially police said Lauryn, from Bootle, was last seen wearing her school uniform.

But police have since amended this to state she was last seen wearing dark clothing and a black bubble jacket.

Police say she is known to visit the Sefton area.


Extensive enquiries have been ongoing to locate her since.

She is described as white, 5ft 7in tall, medium build, with long straight brown hair, glasses and a fair complexion.

Police officers are making extensive efforts to find Lauryn and return her home safely and would urge Lauryn, anyone who knows her whereabouts, or who has seen a female resembling her, to contact @MerPolCC or 101.
