Hamirpur youth in jail for four ATM frauds

CHANDIGARH: A 25-year-old youth was sentenced to 18 months and 19 days in jail for duping gullible people by swapping their debit cards at ATMs.

A 25-year-old youth was sentenced to 18 months and 19 days in jail for duping gullible people by swapping their debit cards at ATMs.

Nikhil Thakur, a resident of Sector 45, was convicted in four cases. Nikhil was in jail ever since he was arrested in November, 2016, so his sentence was considered served.

Nikhil, who is a native of Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh, used to target people who didn’t know how to operate an ATM. He used to stand outside the ATMs and approach people who didn’t know how to operate the ATM.

Nikhil used to ask for the PIN from the victim and helped them in withdrawing the money.

Meanwhile, after the transaction was made, he used to exchange the ATM card and later withdraw money using the victim’s card. Nikhil was active in various parts of the city.
