Exporters to face 'full force' of the law

Livestock export companies who risk animal welfare for financial gain will be named, shamed and face jail under a Turnbull government proposal.

Agriculture Minister David Littleproud told parliament on Thursday banning or suspending sheep exports would be a knee-jerk reaction, but the federal government would do what was necessary to deter and punish wrongdoers.

"For those who seek to flout our laws the full force of those laws will be felt," he said, introducing legislation to create new offences and increase penalties.
