Will Celtic do better business than keeping Tom Rogic?

Tom Rogic’s decision to stay in the Scottish Premiership with Celtic is a huge bonus for the Hoops.

Tom Rogic delighted Celtic fans earlier this month by signing a five-year contract extension at Parkhead.

The Australia international was due to be out of contract with the Hoops next summer, but Rogic drew a line under the uncertainty and pledged his future to the Glasgow side.

The 25-year-old is arguably Celtic’s best player and the fact that he is willing to stick around a while longer means that maybe, just maybe, keeping him is the best bit of business that Brendan Rodgers will do this summer.

Make no mistake, Rogic seems more than capable of following the likes of Victor Wanyama and Virgil van Dijk in carving out a very successful Premier League career some day.

And the likelyhood of impressing in the World Cup this summer would have gone a long, long way toward facilitating a move to England’s top flight.

Of course, he could still dazzle in Russia and leave the Bhoys this summer but, with Rogic signed up until 2023, Rodgers would pick up a massive transfer fee for him.

And if in the likelyhood that he stays beyond the end of the transfer window then at least Celtic can look forward to having such an influential figure in their midfield next term.

Either way, it’s an exceptional bit of business by the club and you wonder whether Celtic will pull off a better deal this summer.
