ANANTAPUR, ANDHRA PRADESH, 22/05/2018: The broken giant wheel cabin at an exhibition at junior college grounds in Anantapur

A 10-year-old girl was killed on the spot, and six others, including three children, were seriously injured, when a cabin or the car of a giant wheel came crashing down while moving, during a public exhibition at Anantapur on Sunday night.

The cabin got separated from the wheel after a bolt got loosened. Police said the giant wheel was about to come to a halt when all of a sudden, the cabin carrying its occupants fell to the ground from a height of about 25 feet.

The injured were immediately shifted to a local hospital where the condition of two of them is said to be critical. Police said the giant wheel operator was found to be drunk, and reportedly ignored the warning of the public that a car on the wheel was unsteady and that it needed attention. The police took the operator into custody.

The deceased was identified as Amrutha of Siddramapuram village near Anantapur town. The police have registered a case, and the exhibition is temporary closed to the public.
