Police officer shot at in UP's Chandauli, two arrested

VARANASI: A police sub-inspector (SI) was shot at by some miscreants in Alinagar area in Chandauli district on late Sunday night. The injured SI was admitted to BHU Trauma centre for treatment. Two miscreants were arrested, while the main accused was absconding. A manhunt was launched to nab the absconding miscreant.
According to reports, the Launda outpost in-charge Santosh Kumar Yadav was on night patrol when he noticed two suspicious looking persons sitting on Panchphedwa culvert near Barahuli village in Alinagar area.
In the meantime, another person also reached there when he was asking for the documents of their motorcycle. One of them took out pistol and opened fire at the SI, who sustained bullet injury on his chest.
Despite being injured, he pushed the motorcycle, snatched the key and tried to catch them. But the miscreants started fleeing from the scene on foot. Meanwhile, the other members of patrolling party also reached there and rushed the injured SI to hospital and began a search for the miscreants.
While fleeing, the miscreants reached Basni village, where villagers considering them thieves assembled in large number and tried to catch them. The miscreants also fired in the air to terrorise the villagers. But two of them were overpowered by villagers, while one miscreant managed to flee in the darkness. They thrashed the miscreants before handing them over to police.
Chandauli SP SK Singh told TOI over phone that one of the arrested miscreants, Krishna Vishwakarma of Kamalpur village, was sent to jail on Monday, while the other miscreant Pankaj Jaisawal was admitted to the hospital. They were booked under section 307 (attempt to murder) and other sections of IPC and Arms Act. A massive manhunt has been launched to nab the absconding miscreant.
