The district unit of the Rajput Sabha has demanded reservations for the poor among upper castes on the basis of economic conditions.
The Rajput Sabha said the state government should grant reservations to poor, widows and other persons belonging to upper castes.
The sabha, at its meeting held at Baijnath last evening, resolved that it did not approve the present reservation system. Tak Chand Rana, district president of the sabha, said the organisation would form units in every Assembly constituency of the state to raise their voice for reservations to the poor among upper castes as they were a neglected lot and getting no financial assistance or job reservation from the government.
Women from 27 mahila mandals participated in the meeting. Over two dozen members of the mahila mandals and four children from an adjoining school were honoured on the occasion. Kuldeep Thakur, chairman of the sabha, Amrabati Rana, Dharamveer Rana, Onkar Katoch and JS Parmar also attended the meeting.
