Picture this. A star kid who followed in the footsteps of his popular actor parents to join Bollywood. In between, he tried drugs, had many affairs, ruled the box office, got arrested and ended up spending many years in jail. That's the story of Bollywood's original Khalnayak. The story of a troubled star. The story which often found itself between the pages of a newspaper or a tabloid.

And now, filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani is all set to bring the life of Sanjay Dutt on the big screen with his upcoming film Sanju.

A month before Sanjay Dutt turns 59, Hirani will give a glimpse of the real story of the actor whose life has been full of giddying ups and terrifying lows.

With a day to the release of the trailer of Sanju, the excitement around the biopic is palpable. All thanks to the intriguing teaser, interesting posters and most importantly - Ranbir Kapoor.

So when a fabulous director decides to bring an interesting story on the big screen with the help of a versatile actor, the results are bound to be fruitful. And that's the main reason why Sanju one of the most-anticipated films of 2018.

SANJU BABA'S COLOURFUL RIDE

Sanjay Dutt's life has been in the public eye, thanks to his star status. If being Sunil Dutt and Nargis's son got him all the attention as a star kid and teenager, the success of his debut film Rocky catapulted him into the A-league in Bollywood. His affairs, tryst with drugs and imprisonment, the court cases - everything about Dutt has made headlines.

He was known to be a spoiled brat but not many had any idea about his daily humiliation in jail or his struggle with drug abuse. And Hirani plans to bring those unsaid or unheard accounts on the big screen with Sanju.

Hirani maintains that unlike other biopics, he won't glorify Sanjay Dutt in the film. All he plans to do is to string the pieces of Sanjay's life together - the death of his mother, his rehab stint and his conviction in the 1993 bomb blasts case, and make it into a film.

RANBIR KAPOOR AS SANJAY DUTT

Last year, when filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani announced Ranbir's name for the Dutt biopic, many called it a suicide mission. With almost nothing in common between Ranbir and Sanjay, fans weren't convinced that Ranbir would be able to pull off a Sanjay Dutt on the big screen.

The story was different when his pictures and posters from the biopic surfaced online. Fans couldn't believe their eyes. In all the posters and the teaser, Ranbir is a spitting image of Sanju baba. With his look and voice game on point, Ranbir has won half the battle even before the trailer could hit the web.

And now, fans and critics are waiting to see Ranbir create magic on the big screen with Sanju.

RAJKUMAR HIRANI'S DEBUT BIOPIC

With four superhits to his credit, filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani has become a name to reckon with in Bollywood. After the Munnabhai franchise cemented his foothold in the industry, films like 3 Idiots and PK added more gems to his filmography.

He is known to be a director who churns out content-driven cinema while still being highly entertaining. And now, Hirani is making his debut in the biopic genre with Sanju. An impromptu meeting with Dutt led to Hirani making a film on him, and the filmmaker calls Sanju baba's life story "a goldmine" for any filmmaker.

Sanju, also starring Paresh Rawal, Manisha Koirala, Anushka Sharma, Dia Mirza and Vicky Kaushal, is set to hit the screens on June 29.
