Eight persons killed and 15 injured in bus accident in Karimnagar

Eight persons were killed and 15 others sustained serious injuries when the TSRTC bus collided head on with a lorry coming in the opposite direction in Chenjerla village of Manakondur mandal on Tuesday morning.

Commissioner of Police V.B. Kamalasan Reddy said that the RTC bus belonging to Huzurabad depot was going from Warangal to Karimnagar and made a halt at the Chenjerla village for passengers to alight. At this juncture, the lorry coming in the opposite direction while overtaking another lorry hit the RTC bus head on and dragged the bus for a distance.

The fronts of both the RTC bus and the lorry were mangled in the impact of the collusion. Six persons died on the spot and two others succumbed to injuries later. The death toll is likely to increase as five others sustained serious injuries.

The injured have been shifted to government hospital in Karimnagar town. Additional police forces rushed to the spot and retrieved the bodies stuck in the mangled bus.

As soon as news reached the district headquarters, Minister for Finance and Civil Supplies Etala Rajender rushed to Chenjerla village to oversee rescue operations and expressed condolences to the bereaved families.
