HYDERABAD: The medical seats scam that led to the arrest of deputy director G Venkata Ramana is a case of jeopardising careers in a wanton manner. The sports fraternity was not surprised about the latest scandal that rocked Sports Authority of Telangana State (SATS) on Wednesday. Houses of SATS officials - K Manohar, GA Shobha, G Chandra Reddy and Vimalakar Rao - were also raided.
A former junior national hoopster and coach of AP senior and junior teams, Venkata Ramana started his career with Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) in 1989-90.
He began his stint with SAAP as basketball coach in Chittoor. Later he worked in Nizamabad before being transferred to Karimnagar, where he was promoted as District Sports Development Officer (DSDO) - responsible for sports activity in the district. It also includes construction and buying and distribution of sports equipment.
Sources said he was also under scanner with regards to charges of alleged corruption when Karimnagar stadium was built. About six years ago, he was promoted as SAAP deputy director, which became SATS after state bifurcation.
