PATNA: One Santosh Sagar alias Santosh Kumar Jha (18) allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a rod in the ceiling inside a lodge at Shivpuri under the K Nagar police station area in Purnia district in the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday.
SHO Barun Kumar Goswami said Santosh was upset over his poor results in Intermediate (Class XII) examination conducted by the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) this year.
The results were declared on June 6 and he had failed in physics and chemistry papers.
Santosh’s father Ganesh Kumar Jha is a farmer at village Ramai under the Forbesganj police station area in Araria district. Santosh used to stay at a lodge owned by one of his relatives in Purnia for studies.
Quoting his family members, the police said Santosh’s parents were pacifying him to prepare again for next year. “He used a towel to hang himself from an iron rod in the ceiling. It was known after he did not open the door on Sunday morning. People peeped inside the room and found Santosh hanging,” police said, adding no suicide note was found from the spot.
Police said Santosh’s parents fainted repeatedly as he was their only son. His close relatives collected the body after post mortem.
