The Rockies entered 2018 with high hopes after bolstering their bullpen in the offseason. Injuries and disappointing performances have hindered their success.

Colorado put down some major money into the ‘pen, investing $106 million after re-signing Jake McGee and picking up Wade Davis and Bryan Shaw.

It’s been a mixed bag: Davis leads the National League in saves with 20. McGee has settled down with four-straight scoreless appearances after a May in which he posted a 6.23 ERA. And Shaw, well, let’s just say it’s been rough. Couple that with injuries to Adam Ottavino and Scott Oberg and Colorado is left with a bullpen that’s in shambles.

The group looks much different. Promising prospect Jeff Hoffman was called up on Friday, and lefties Sam Howard and Jerry Vasto came up on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

But there could some hope on the horizon. Antonio Senzatela, who’s been down in Triple-A since May 3, has been solid in Albuquerque. Kyle Newman looks at if he’s the right man for the job to shore up the bullpen.

Now about those issues at Coors Field… Mark Kiszla writes: “Coors Field is the major leagues’ femme fatale. Beautiful. Seductive. And deadly to championship dreams. The Rockies’ home field is killing them.”

Well, maybe the off day and a start on their road trip will help cure what ails them.
