BUXAR: The body of a 12-year-old boy, Shashank Rai, was found near Shaheed Veer Abdul Hamid Setu at Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday. He had been kidnapped from Simri Dudhi Patti village under the Simri police station area in Buxar district on Friday.
Dumraon DSP K K Singh said the boy was stabbed to death. The place where the body was found is nearly 70km from Simri.
Shashank, son of Rakesh Rai, was a resident of Bhati village under the Sikandarpur police station area in Balia district in UP.
He had come to his maternal grandparents’ house in Simri village and was playing in the field with friends when he was kidnapped by unidentified persons.
Alleging police inaction, the boy’s family members and irate villagers blocked the Buxar-Patna national highway near Purana-Bhojpur Chowk and demanded immediate transfer of Buxar SP Rakesh Kumar. The road blockade was lifted around 4pm.
Buxar MLA Sanjay Kumar Tiwari alias Munna Tiwari also blamed the Buxar SP for deteriorating law and order situation in the district. “Policing in the district has become a matter of concern. It's surprising that chief minister Nitish Kumar is oblivious of the situation in Buxar district,” he said.
While no arrests had been made till the time of reporting on Monday evening, police sources said land dispute could be the reason for the crime.
