Telangana: Mahabubnagar sports school still on paper

MAHABUBNAGAR: With the State government sanctioning an athletics sports school for the district, sportspersons —who had asked the authorities to start the school at the earliest—seem to be a happy lot.
Chairman of Sports Authority of Telangana State (SATS) Allipuram Venkateswar Reddy has approved the sports school and a file pertaining to the setting up of the school is pending with State sports minister Padma Rao. Steps are already afoot to get the required funds for setting up of the sports school in the district.

According to officials, the sports school will come up in Jadcherla, the Assembly constituency represented by State Health Minister C Laxma Reddy, who is said to have played a key role in bringing the sports school to his constituency. Sports secretary of the State Burra Venkatesham said Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao will give the final approval for the school.

The local sportspersons, meanwhile, on several occasions have made a representation on the issue to the SATS chairman and the sports secretary. They urged the government to run the school from a rented premises till a permanent building was allocated for the school. When the issue was earlier brought to the notice of the State Health minister, he had volunteered to bear the rent of the building from his pocket.
