Auction bidders are tipped to lay down up to £4000 as a 'bug brooch' worn by Miss Moneypenny in two classic James Bond movies goes under the hammer today.

Unlike most James Bond trinkets, there's no secret recording device or other trick hidden inside the bug.

It is a luxurious gold and turquoise insect brooch worn by the actress that played Bond's secretary Miss Moneypenny.

Lois Maxwell, who played Miss Moneypenny in 14 Bond movies, owned the brooch and donned it twice on film.

She wore the brooch in the 1969 film On Her Majesty's Secret Service, and again in the 1983 film Octopussy.

The current owner bought it at the Christie's James Bond sale in February 2001, a sale that also featured the bikini worn by actress Ursula Andress in the film Dr No and the 1965 Aston Martin DB5 driven by Pierce Brosnan in the 1995 film GoldenEye.

The Aston Martin is due for auction at Bonhams in London next month, where it is estimated to fetch £1.2m to £1.6m.

Antiques Trade Gazette reported that the owner of the 18ct gold brooch, which has its wings set with diamonds, ruby eyes, and a polished turquoise stone body, now plans to sell it.

The brooch will be offered at the Jewellery, Watches & Coins sale at Ewbank's Auctions in Surrey on Wednesday June 20 with an estimate of £2000-4000.
