NEW DELHI: A dismembered body of a woman in her early 30s was found stuffed inside a gunny sack near the Yamuna banks along southeast Delhi's Sarita Vihar on Thursday. Police said the woman's body was chopped into more than half a dozen pieces and she has not been identified yet. Her face too was disfigured. A team has been formed to crack the case, police said.
Police said a PCR call was received at 8.12am regarding two unknown bags lying at the roadside inside a vacant plot, soon after which a police team was sent to the spot.
When the bag was inspected, it was found that there was a body in it. The crime team was called to the spot for inspection and the hands and limbs of the body were found dismembered, police said.
DCP (southeast) Chinmoy Biswal said the body was sent to the mortuary and a case was registered. Police said efforts to identify the woman are on.
Cops said locals in the area were also questioned but none of them had any clue about who kept the bags there. They said that they are looking at CCTV footage to ascertain who threw the body. They suspect that the woman was strangulated to death with the same dupatta that she was wearing when her body was found by the police. She was wearing a green salwar.
Police said her picture has been circulated in all the districts and they are also questioning people from the neighbourhood to ascertain her identity. Locals said, the woman was never seen in the area before Thursday. They suspect she could have been killed after a failed love affair but are inquiring into all other angles as well.
