Met officials attributed the rainfall to thunderstorm activity. “There is a lot of thunderstorm activity accompanied by gusty winds and heavy rain at isolated places across the state due to which city also received moderate rainfall,” said an official of IMD, Hyderabad.
Met department said conditions will be same on Saturday.
After the rain, places like NTR Marg, Tank Bund, Saroornagar Lake and other green zones in the city swelled with citizens enjoying the cool breeze and pleasant weather. “Though even moderate rain results in water logging, they are a source of relief as the weather becomes pleasant. Unlike sunny days, today I saw a lot of people taking an evening stroll on NTR Marg and around Hussainsagar,” said Prakash Viswamitre, a marketing executive.
GHMC took up trimming of tree branches and kept monsoon vehicles on standby in the eventuality of heavy rain. Executive engineers were instructed by GHMC commissioner B Janardhan Reddy to proactively take up monsoon action and clear water logging, if any, to avoid traffic congestions.
