Bihar police driver with patrolling gypsy detained in UP for extorting money
PATNA: A Bihar police driver along with patrolling gypsy was detained for at least four hours by Uttar Pradesh (UP) police on Friday night after it crossed border with a police team while allegedly extorting money from drivers of sand laden truck.
The patrolling team was of Durgavati police station in Kaimur district which is near by the border of Chandauli district of UP. It was a police team of Chandauli’s Sayedraza police station which had detained the driver.
The Bihar police patrolling team had entered at least one kilometre inside UP territory after crossing Karmnasha bridge on river Karmanasha.
Sayedraza police station SHO Surendra Pratap Singh while talking to TOI over phone on Saturday said the detained driver was identified as Parwez Khan, who said that he was a contractual driver of Bihar police.
"One sub-inspector (SI) and at least two constables who were part of patrolling team, fled as soon as they spotted UP police approaching them," he said.
"Police had received complaint at around 7.30pm that a Bihar police team was extorting money from truck drivers transporting sand to UP after deflating tyres. Acting on this complaint, the raid was conducted," Singh said.
He said Rs 1,800 was recovered from Khan who was driving the Bihar police gypsy bearing registration number BR-45P-7501. He said Khan was detained and quizzed for at least four hours. "He failed to explain about the money recovered from him," Singh said.

"Prima facie, the complaint seems to be true. Bihar police team was well aware that it had entered inside UP as even the bridge fall under Sayedraza police station’s jurisdiction," he said.
Singh said he later spoke to Dugavati police station SHO Alok Kumar over phone asking if he was aware about movement of his patrolling team.
"SHO Kumar said he was aware of a patrolling team’s movement in the area but was not aware that it had crossed border," he said.
SHO Singh said as none came forward with a complaint, no FIR was lodged Khan with gypsy was set free at around midnight after making a station diary entry.
When asked, Durgavati SHO Kumar denied anything about extortion. "The team led by SI Upendra Kumar Yadav was involved in clearing traffic blockade but perhaps wrongly crossed border," he said.
Kaimur SP Mohammad Faroguddin said an inquiry was ordered on the issue. "Action would be taken after getting report," he added.
