Malda mango tiff kills youth
Malda/Tamluk: A tiff over distribution of mangoes fr-om a family orchard claimed a youth’s life at Malda’s Harishchandrapur on Friday.
The youth was allegedly killed by his uncle. The vict-im’s parents were injured and hospitalized. Police are probing the murder.
Md Hanif and his brother Abdul Hakim have an orchard at Chhagharia. Mangoes plucked from trees there on Thursday were up for distribution on Friday.

“We demanded our share as the orchard is ancestral property and we deserve a share of the mangoes. But my brother refused to give me my share,” Hanif said.
A verbal altercation between the brothers soon turned violent, with Hakim attacking Hanif with rods and sharp weapons. Hanif’s wife Hawai Biwi and son Tajmul Haque were attacked for trying to save him. Tajmul was allegedly stabbed with a si-ckle by his uncle. He was taken to hospital, where he died. Hanif and his wife suffered severe injuries and were admitted to Malda Medical College. A complaint was lodged against five persons, including Hakim, but all the accused are absconding.

In another incident in Malda, a suspected child-lifter was allegedly beaten up severely on Saturday and is in a critical state in hospital.
Sahapur residents alleged they saw the man walking about aimlessly and allegedly accosted him. Identifying him as Manoj Kumar Lala (30), they said he had been arrested in a paedophilia case in the past and was out on bail. He allegedly gave ‘unsatisfactory answers’ to their questions and was thrashed after the crowd accused him of being on the prowl for children again. He was admitted to Malda hospital in a critical condition.
While confirming that Lala was an accused in a paedophilia case in the past, police said they had not receiv-edchild-lifting complaints from parents in and around Sahapur in the recent past.
