Piers Morgan being controversial isn't exactly a new thing – but Good Morning Britain viewers weren't happy with his technique as he interviewed recent Love Island evictee Rosie Williams.

The journalist accused her of giving up her law career in favour of appearing on the ITV2 reality show during their chat on Monday's (June 25) show.

"Rosie, you achieved a post-graduate master of laws degree from the University of Chester and you've given up all that to go in to a villa of half-wits to try and have sex on national TV. Why? Why would you do that?" he asked her.

When Rosie stated it was a once in a lifetime opportunity, he responded: "So is banging your head on the wall for three weeks. You're a lawyer. What do your family make of you giving up this good and successful law career to make yourself look stupid on TV?"

"My family are very proud of me, and I don't think I made myself look stupid on TV," Rosie responded.

"I was working 18-hour days in a law firm, getting sleepless nights. It's not as glamorous as it seems. This once in a lifetime opportunity came up and it just seemed like the best thing for me."

Rosie pointed out that she could go back to law, and also explained to Piers that part of the reason she went on the show is because her career – complete with demanding, long days – made it difficult to meet a potential partner, and she was open to the chance that Love Island could offer her that.

But viewers weren't impressed with how Piers interviewed Rosie, with some accusing him of trying to make the 26-year-old look stupid.

But Rosie did manage to hold her own against Piers, telling him: "In my legal career, I did always want to make a difference and go in to criminal and family law, but there's no money in there right now.

"It does need to be looked at and completely revamped, so I ended up going in to the civil and business side which wasn't where my heart was.

"Now I have a voice and I have a large following, hopefully I can make a difference with empowering women.

"I've had so many girls come up to me since I've come out and say that I've helped them through break-ups and help them to not feel victimised and that they can stand up for themselves."

She added: "Unless you are a lawyer, Piers, I don't think you can really say if I could have made a difference in my career."

But Piers ended the interview begging Rosie: "Just go back to law, please."

Good Morning Britain airs every weekday at 6am on ITV. Love Island airs nightly at 9pm on ITV2.
