Pilibhit journalist shot, injured by strongman
Pilibhit: A journalist associated with a news channel was allegedly shot and injured by a strongman in Bisalpur city of the district on Sunday evening.
According to the FIR lodged by Jitendra Gangwar, a resident of Shivaji Nagar in Bisalpur, his brother Satyendra Gangwar was assaulted and shot by one Aman Jaiswal and his aide at 9pm on Sunday, when Satyendra was going to drop his friend, Vishal Mathur, at the latter’s residence on his motorcycle.

Jaiswal allegedly opened fire on Satyendra near the railway station, hitting the journalist in the left leg and lower back.
“Jaiswal is a part of the mining mafia, who grabs contracts for the food department’s procurement centres in the district during the Rabi and Kharif seasons every year. He is extremely well-connected politically. In order to appease ministers and MLAs, he extorts money from rice millers,” Jitendra told Pilibhit superintendent of police (SP) Balendu Bhushan Singh.
“My brother had been reporting on the various illegal activities of Jaiswal. On March 22, Jaiswal and five of his men had assaulted Satyendra with sticks and edged weapons when my brother had gone to cover a dispute between Jaiswal and another person. On that occasion, too, Jaiswal had fired at Satyendra but missed,” Jitendra told TOI on Monday.
Police had filed an FIR against the six accused under section 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC in that case. Three of the accused had been arrested, and Jaiswal had allegedly been putting pressure on Satyendra to withdraw the FIR.

“After my brother refused to withdraw the case, Jaiswal attacked him on Sunday,” Jitendra added.
Station house officer of Bisalpur Kotwali police station, Madho Singh Visht said, “An FIR has been lodged against Jaiswal and an unidentified person under section 307 of IPC after the Sunday incident.”
Satyendra was shifted to the community health centre in Bisalpur and then to the Pilibhit district hospital. A 28-member delegation of local media persons met the SP on Monday morning to demand Jaiswal’s immediate arrest. The SP assured them of swift action in the matter.
