Rainfall in Dakshina Kannada broke another record with rainfall for the month of June surpassing the cumulative average for the month by 35mm with four days to go for the month end.

The waters in the Phalguni River near Gurupur, about 20 kms from Mangaluru, has touched the river bank due to incessant rains in the region from the past few days.
MANGALURU: Rains in Dakshina Kannada broke another record with rainfall for June surpassing the cumulative average for the month by 35mm with four days to go for the month end.
With this the June month saw two records being broken. The other was rainfall exceeding the normal rainfall record for the first six months, by recording 59mm extra rainfall than what the district records from January to June by June 20 itself.
As on June 26, the district in the first six months has received 300mm of excess rainfall.

A major landslide near Mithakodi on the Mudipu-BC Road route near Mangaluru saw the road blocked since Tuesday morning. The police and the locals are clearing the path for traffic.
The district recorded 82.5mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours from 8.30am of Monday. Bantwal Taluk received the highest rainfall of 104 mm, with Sullia taluk receiving the least at 49mm of rainfall. Belthangady, Puttur and Mangaluru taluks received 88mm, 78 and 98mm of rainfall respectively. Last year the district had received good rainfall at 90mm on the same day.
Till June 26, the district has received 1476mm of rainfall in six months, 300 mm more than what it usually receives at 1176mm. Last year, the first six months of the month till June 26, the rainfall was 886mm.

Of the five taluks of DK District, Mangaluru taluk received the highest amount of rainfall at 1663mm in the first six months – thanks to the May 29 deluge which recorded over 280mm of rainfall on a single day. With the six month normal rainfall for Mangaluru taluk being 1248mm, the taluk has received 415mm of excess rainfall. Last year the six month rainfall was half at 833mm.
The other taluks also have received good rainfall with Sullia taluk receiving least among the taluks. Sullia taluk received 1285mm of rainfall which is 270mm more than the normal six month rainfall for Sullia taluk.
The water level in Nethravathi River at Bantwal was 4.4 meters with danger level being 8.5 meters. The water level of Nethravathi River at Uppinangady and Kumaradhara River were well below danger levels at 18 meters each with danger levels being 28.5 meters and 29.5 meters respectively.
